Biology, field trip, 1977, photo 1

This image shows the attendees of a field trip taken by students and faculty in the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in June 1977. The Department of Biology aimed to provide cultural background in life sciences, prepare biology teachers, and train biologists. It is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains a greenhouse, a herbarium, and several land tracts located on and off campus. Standing on the far left of the third row is Dr. William Carpenter, Chairperson of the Department of Biology and Professor of Biology.
