Description
This image shows students measuring a wooly worm in biology class in the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in June 1977. One student lets the worm crawl on his hand while another student measures it with a ruler. Two other students are observing on the right and left. The Department of Biology aimed to provide cultural background in life sciences, prepare biology teachers, and train biologists, and included courses on animal observation, zoology, and graduate classes in animal ecology. It is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains a greenhouse, a herbarium, and several land tracts located on and off campus.
