Description
This image shows members of the Art Department working on an art display by the parking lot of Farthing Auditorium, built 1974, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the mid to late 1970s. Students and faculty are standing in front of a painted plywood barrier around ladders with paint buckets and brushes. Newland Hall, built 1939, is visible in the background. The Art Department is located in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. It includes concentrations in clay, drawing, fibers, metals/jewelry, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture, and often displays student and faculty art in the Catherine Smith Gallery and the Turchin Center for Visual Arts. Third from the left is Mr. Larry Edwards, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Art.
