This image shows one of the small group sessions held during the 1989 Conference on Trusteeship held at Appalachian State University (1967-current). A group of trustees are seen sitting around a table with pamphlets in front of them. The poster on the wall reads, "Take the wrong classes, and you could be dressed up with no place to go." Conference attendees included the Board of Governors, trustees and chancellors from the 16 universities within the University of North Carolina System. Guest speakers included Paul Fulton, president of the Sara Lee Corporation, and University of California President Emeritus Clark Kerr. It was held in the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center, built 1972. The man to the left with his chin resting on his hand is Dr. Harry Williams. At the time if this picture he was a doctoral student doing an internship at Appalachian.
