Description

This image shows Catherine Smith, head of the Art Department, instructing a student on weaving using a loom used to teach weaving in the Art Department at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). The Art Department included courses in design that included textile design, as well as courses for Home Economics majors on applied design and decorative design. The Home Economics Department also included courses on textiles, tailoring and advanced clothing construction, advanced dressmaking, and advanced textiles.
