Description

This image shows a man shaking hands with head coach E. C. Duggins during a football banquet being held in Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on December 11, 1952. Duggins served as assistant coach for the Mountaineer football team at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) starting 1939, and was head coach from 1947 until 1956. The banquet was attended by around 200 people, including faculty, staff, administrators, and students. Awards were given to outstanding members of the Mountaineer Football Team for 1952-53, and Coach E. C. Duggins distributed letters to deserving team members. The guest speaker for the event was Charles Elledge, principal of Marion High School.
