Description

This image shows Mac Smith, sophomore member of the Mountaineer football team of 1953-54, standing on College Field at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). Mac Smith died on July 2, 1954 of malaria contracted during the Korean War. College Field was located south of the Administration Building, built 1924, approximately where Rankin Science Hall was later built in 1963. This image appears in the October 23, 1953, edition of "The Appalachian" (p. 3).
