This image shows a partially out-of-focus view of Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on January 12, 1959. The campus is seen from the south from the hill in front of the Chancellor's Residence (not shown). Newland Residence Hall, built 1939, is visible in the center of the image, with the smokestack from the New River Light and Power Company is visible in the background.
