This image shows E. C. Duggins standing outside at College Field. Duggins served as assistant coach for the Mountaineer football team at Appalachain State Teachers College (1929-1967) starting 1939, and was head coach from 1947 until 1956. Smith-Wright Hall, built 1940, can be seen in the background. College Field was located south of the Administration Building, built 1924, approximately where Rankin Science Hall was later built in 1963.
