Description
This image shows the 1957-58 Student Government posing in front of a poster, reading "Student Government News," at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in 1958. The Student Council was made up of elected representatives of each of the four classes, and met weekly with the Executive Council of Appalachian State, allowing a student voice in the College's decisions. It has been an official representation of the student body since 1940. It also oversaw extracurricular activities and student organizations. Image shows, left to right, in the front row, Bob Cagle, Jim Fite, Bill Passan, Kermit Sigmon, Lila Malone, and in the second row, Roger Thomas, Betty Swaim, Dolly Vanderlip, Sonny Adkins, Carl Wyatt, Ron Elliot, Pat Harrison, Irene Roach, Joyce Ollis, and Tommy Day. This image appears in the 1958 Rhododendron (p. 100). Mr. Roger Thomas, on the far right of the second row, was Professor of Health, Physical Education and Recreation and the Golf Coach.
