This image shows a student shaking hands with President William Howard Plemmons (1955-1969) during the degree ceremony during the spring commencement in Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on May 25, 1958. Commencement included a speech by Charles F. Carroll, state superintendent of Public Instruction, and an invocation by Reverend E. H. Lowman, pastor of the Boone Methodist Church, performances by the Choir and Band, and a degree ceremony.
