Description

This image shows Mr. John Howell in an office in Whitener Hall, built 1954, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on May 19, 1958. Howell served as principal of the Appalachian Elementary School, also known as the Demonstration Elementary School. Housed in Whitener Hall, it was a joint project between Watauga County Schools and Appalachian State from the early 1920s to the mid-1970s, where elementary school students were taught by Appalachian State students and faculty. Howell attended Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) and graduated in 1930 with a bachelor of science degree.
