This image shows the attendees of the spring convocation ceremony standing in front of Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on April 16, 1958. Image includes the members of the State Board of Education, Dean of College Daniel J. Whitener, sixth from right, President Emeritus J. D. Rankin, fourth from the right, and Vice-President David Barnard Dougherty, second from right. Spring convocation included attendance by the State Board of Education and a speech by J. Harris Purks, the executive secretary of the Board.
