Reading Center, 1957, eye exams

This image shows a woman recieving an eye examination at the Reading Center at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) on January 25, 1957. A crowd of onlookers on on the left and right of her, and two eye charts on on the wall in the background. The Reading Center provided diagnostic and remedial services for Appalachian students and the region in general. It also served as a laboratory for students in the teacher preparation program.
