This image shows the Junior High Drum Majorettes marching down Locust towards King Street in Boone, NC, on September 30, 1957. Appalachian High School, built 1938, can be seen in the background. Six young girls in white shirts, dark shorts, and white cowboy boots, are seen twirling batons. Onlookers can be seen watching from the steps in front of the school, and a marching band can be seen in the background to the right. Majorettes were students from the Appalachian Elementary School, also known as the Demonstration Elementary School run by Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) and Watauga County Schools.
