Description
This image shows the Junior High Drum Majorettes marching down Locust towards King Street in Boone, NC, on September 30, 1957. Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) can be seen in the background, including Appalachian High School, built 1938, Smith-Wright Hall, built 1940, and the D. D. Dougherty Library, built 1935. Six young girls in white shirts, dark shorts, and white cowboy boots, are seen twirling batons. A marching band can be seen in the background. Majorettes were students from the Appalachian Elementary School, also known as the Demonstration Elementary School run by Appalachian State and Watauga County Schools.
