This image shows a man being given a polio vaccine on March 8, 1957 in Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). Vaccinations were administered by Nurse Mary S. Shook (not pictured), Nina Martin, and Nancy Thomas. Appalachian State hosted periodic clinics in 1957 to administer the three-part Salk Poliomyelitis. The man on the left is Mr. Z.V. Shook (member of the Library staff).
