Commencement, 1970, honorary doctorate

This image shows Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) conferring an honorary doctorate during the commencement ceremony at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in 1970. Former Appalachian State President William Howard Plemmons (1955-1969) fixes the doctoral hood for the recipient, while Wey holds a framed doctorate to be presented. Commencement was held in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968.
