This image shows Michael Scales, the 1990-1991 SGA President, standing at a podium introducing poet Maya Angelou at Appalachian State University (1967-current) during Convocation on September 12, 1990. Sitting on the right is Chancellor John E. Thomas (1979-1993). Maya Angelou appeared at Appalachian State as part of the Artist and Lecture Series, a program to bring music, dance, and theater performances to Appalachian State.
