This image shows two attendees of the commencement ceremony at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in May 1978. Commencement was held in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968. Dwight Quinn stands in the middle. Quinn was a legislator in the North Carolina Legislature and former member of the Appalachian State Board of Trustees. He played a prominent role in Appalachian State achieving university status, and received an honorary doctor of laws degree from Appalachian State during the commencement ceremony.
