This image shows Douglas H. Covington, the prinicple speaker at the August 1981 commencement at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Douglas Covington was chancellor of Winston-Salem University. A man stands behind a podium bearing the Appalachian State seal. The wall in the background partially reads, "...IDSON" with a partially visible drawing of a mascot. Commencement was held in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968.
