This image shows Dwight Quinn receiving an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1978. A doctoral hood is being placed over his head by Appalachian State Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979). The ceremony was part of the 1978 commencement in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968, at Appalachian State University (1969-current). Quinn was a legislator and chairman of the Appalachian State Board of Trustees. He helped the School obtain university status in 1967.
