The Appalachian Training Complex was grant-funded program by a Appalachian State, which included a lighthouse project examining new methods for teaching students in the elementary and high school levels, and the Training for Teacher Trainers (Triple-T) Project, where teachers already in the work force were retrained with new methods for teaching teachers with students in actual classroom situations. It utilized art, music, and audio-visual materials, a more challenging and individualized curriculum that depended on each student's aptitude in each subject. Appalachian State's program was aimed at improving Western North Carolina public schools with high dropout rates, low attendance, and poor facilities. Teachers at participating attended workshops and seminars during the summer session at Appalachian State that acquainted them with new teaching methods in various subject areas.
