This image shows Appalachian State Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) and Mrs. and Dr. William Howard Plemmons, former Appalachian State chancellor from 1955 to 1969, taking their seats at a table at a luncheon celebrating the University's seventy-fifth anniversary. The seventy-fifth anniversary of Appalachian State University (1967-current) was celebrated in 1978, commemorating the anniversary of the University becoming a state-sponsored institution with a focus in teacher training in 1903, when Watauga Academy (1899-1903) became Appalachian Training School (1903-1925).
