Satellite Uplink Project, photo 2

This image shows three people inside KU-Band satellite uplink mobile unit used for establishing a satellite uplink at Appalachian State University (1967-current). On the right is Chancellor John E. Thomas (1979-1993) and on the left is Dr. Joyce Lawrence, Dean Of the Graduate School and Professor of Elementary Education. Thomas paved the way for telecommunications on campus by providing the students with campus-wide cable television and a satellite uplink, which joined the campus with the western North Carolina region and the world.
