Food Services, Student Union, photo 1
Description
This image shows the dining area of the ice cream parlor in W. H. Plemmons Student Union, built 1967, at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Students can be seen seated at tables with books and food around them. The background shows vending machines, with a man working with one of them on the right. The two machines on the left read "Candyshop," and the machine second from the right reads, "Pastryshop." Welborn Cafeteria was the main dining hall for Appalachian State since 1925, and served food primarily grown from the University's two farms until the early 1960s. Services were expanded in the 1960s to include an ice cream parlor and the Gold Room in Plemmons Student Union.
