Description

This image shows William Leonard Eury standing next to his portrait at the dedication of the William Leonard Eury Appalachian Collection at the first Belk Library, built 1968, on October 17, 1971, at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Eury worked at the library at Appalachian State since 1929, and served as library director from 1945 to 1970. The portrait was painted by Appalachian State student Paul Ragan. The W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection is a repository for materials related to the Southern uplands, with strengths in the social sciences, regional history, folklore, music, religion, genealogy, fiction, and African and Native Appalachia.
