This image shows a man, identified as Ron Rankin, looking at the hardware for the AppalNET system at Appalachian State University (1967-current). AppalNET started as an 8-channel campus cable system implemented by John E. Thomas, chancellor of Appalachian State from 1979-1993. It expanded to become an online resource for information and resources from the Appalachian State community, including academic information, email, and University organizations.
