This image shows Chancellor John E. Thomas boarding an AppalCART bus at Appalachian State University (1967-current). The AppalCART served as a shuttle bus service for the Appalachian State campus starting in 1980. It expanded to the town of Boone in September 1981, after the Appalachian shuttle service joined with the Watauga County Transportation Authority to create a bus service for students and citizens of Boone, NC. John E. Thomas was chancellor of Appalachian State from 1979-1993.
