A group of students stand in the background, and boxes of candy are on the tables in front of them. Herbert Wey was the first chancellor of Appalachian State University, serving from 1969-1979. He was former head of the Department of Education, and former principal of Appalachian High School (1938-1965), otherwise known as the Demonstration High School.
