Student Council, 1956-57, photo 1

Description

This image shows the 1956-57 student council at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). The student government was formalized into an official body in 1939-1940, and consisted of five seniors, four juniors, and two sophomores. It evolved to include representatives from all four classes, plus six officers. It met weekly with the executive council and participated in setting policies affecting the student body. President Ed Lakey can be seen seated in the middle, with senior Val Mosher on his left and secretary Jeanette Huffman on his right. This image appears in the 1957 Rhododendron (p. 8).
