This image shows the Homecoming dance on October 15, 1956. Three students are seated on bleachers next to Mr. Ned Trivette, Vice President for Business Affairs and Mrs. Elizabeth "Bebe" Plemmons, wife of President William H. Plemmons was president of Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) and Appalachian State University (1967-current) from 1955-1969. He is known for his replacement of many older campus buildings with newer, updated buildings, including Sanford Hall, built 1969, B. B. Dougherty Administration Building, built 1968, the first Belk Library, built 1968, Rankin Science Hall, built 1961, and Lillie Shull Dougherty Hall, built 1962.
