Description

This image shows "The Appalachian's" 1954-1955 editor Hope Dyson standing next to business manager James Smith, who sits before a typewriter and an copy of the newspaper. "The Appalachian" was the student newspaper of Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) from 1934. It was a weekly newspaper assembled and published by students elected the year before by the student body. It reported campus events, sports, opinions and editorials, and local advertisements. This image was taken on April 1, 1954, after their election to the editor and business manager posts.
