Description

This image shows five of the six Playcrafters, the dramatic club at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967), performing in the January 1954 production of "Home of the Brave," a World War II drama about a Jewish soldier's experience in the South Pacific. Seen are Coy Temple ("Doctor, Capt. Harold Bitterger"), Larry Auten ("Mingo"), Jerry Young ("Maj. Dennis Robinson Jr."), Charles Hales ("Coney," in wheelchair), and Ed Collins ("T. J.") Not shown is Michael Harrelson, whose character "Finch" was killed. This image appears in the 1954 Rhododendron (p. 86).The production won the highest rating at the annual drama festival in Chapel Hill, NC, that year.
