Dauphin Disco Dougherty, circa 1910

Description

Dauphin Disco (D. D.) Dougherty was the co-founder and co-principal of Watauga Academy (1899-1903) and the Treasurer and Business Manager of Appalachian Training School (1903-1925) and Appalachian State Normal School (1925-1929), until his death in 1929. He was married to Lillie Shull Dougherty, who taught Home Economics at Appalachian and took over as Business Manager after D. D. Dougherty's death. He obtained an A.B. from Wake Forest and also taught science at Appalachian Training School, including physiology, physics, zoology, astronomy, and algebra. He was brother to Blanford Barnard Dougherty.
