Biographical Text
Professor Emeritus of English Oscar Dile ("O.D.") Holton, Jr., (December 10, 1922-) was born and reared in Texas. He earned his diploma at the Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas (1958), B.A. from Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas (1963), M.A. and Ph.D. in literature at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas (1965, 1967). Holton served as a teaching assistant at Texas Tech University in 1963 and as chairman of the English department at Howard Payne College in Brownwood, TX, in 1967. He taught in the Appalachian State University English Department from 1968 to 1988, becoming a tenured full professor and teacher of honors and other specialized courses. Holton travelled to India and Europe during his years at Appalachian. Holton was awarded emeritus status on December 22, 1988 and now lives with his wife Novetta at Holly Lake Ranch (retirement community) near Tyler, Texas.
