Biographical Text
Professor Emerita of English Susan H. Logan (April 14, 1927-), was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She attended public school in Chattanooga and later received her A.B. degree in English from the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia, in 1948. Dr. Logan received her M.A. degree from the University of Georgia in 1952, and her Ph.D. degree in English from Florida State University, Tallahassee, in 1966. Dr. Logan began her teaching career in Waycross, Georgia, in 1948; then she taught in Valdosta, Georgia, (1950-61). Logan became an instructor at Normal College, Norman Park, Georgia, in 1962, and, in 1965, she took the position of instructor of English at Florida State University in Tallahassee. In 1966, Dr. Logan joined Appalachian State University as an assistant professor in the Department of English. While at Appalachian State, Logan completed several off-campus scholarly assignments, which included visiting five university campuses and spending considerable time in observing and discussing their English as a Second Language Program; she consequently made recommendations to Appalachians Department of English regarding the implementation of a similar program on campus. During an off-campus scholarly assignment, Dr. Logan taught at the University of Swansea, West Glamorgan, United Kingdom, and studied Russian literature and language at the university as well. Dr. Logan retired from Appalachian State University in June 1991 and was granted emerita status in June 1992. She lives in Boone, North Carolina.
