Tree Farm, F. Ray Derrick, 1963

Description

This image shows Biology Professor F. Ray Derrick standing at a tree farm in the 1963. Derrick was a vocal advocate for conservation through tree farms and owned over four hundred acres planted with popular and white pine trees. Derrick began teaching biology and ecology in the Department of Biology at Appalachian State in 1946, and served as department chairman from 1956 to 1973. He retired in 1978.
