This image shows Biology Professor F. Ray Derrick standing a lake with a bucket in the 1970s. A bench can be seen sitting in the background. Derrick began teaching biology and ecology in the Department of Biology at Appalachian State in 1946, and served as department chairman from 1956 to 1973. He retired in 1978.
