This image shows Irvin Watson Carpenter, professor and chairman of the Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the mid-1970s. Carpenter began teaching at Appalachian State in 1953. He served as chairman from 1973 to 1979 and retired in 1986.
