This image shows Professor I. W. Carpenter teaching a biology class at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in the 1960s. He canb e seen standing by an overhead projector and speaking into a microphone hanging around his neck. Carpenter began teaching in the Department of Biology in 1953. He served as chairman from 1973 to 1979 and retired in 1986.
