Appalachian Consortium, Barry Buxton, circa 1980

This image shows Barry Buxton, director of the Appalachian Consortium at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the early 1980s. He was appointed to the position in 1980. Founded in 1971, the Appalachian Consortium was a non-profit organization of Appalachian universities and other educational organizations whose goal was to promote and preserve Appalachian culture and heritage. Later in his career Dr. Buxton was to become President of Lees - McRae College.
