Description

This image shows Dean Daniel Jay Whitener presenting a copy of the score for Hunter Johnson's "North State" to Professor William Spencer, chairman of the Music Department, during a ceremony in Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in February 1964. The score was presented in recognition of the College's contribution to the Carolina Charter Tercentenary Celebration. Whitener served as dean of the College from 1955 to 1964 and was chairman of the Carolina Charter Tercentenary Commission.
