This image shows some members of the Southern Historical Association in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Daniel Jay Whitener, dean of Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967), can be seen standing on the right. Whitener taught history and social studies at Appalachian State since 1932, and served as dean of the College from 1955 to 1964.
