Description

This image shows Robert W. Watkins, professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, holding an umbrella over a man's head at an outdoor meeting of the Alumni Association at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in the early 1960s. A woman holding an umbrella can be seen in the background. Watkins began teaching at Appalachian State in 1932. He served as department chairman and athletic director from 1940 to 1944, head football coach from 1940 to 1942, and wrestling coach until 1958. He retired in the mid-1970s.
