Description

This image shows Maxie Edmisten, dean of Women, standing in an office at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in the 1960s. Doctor James E. Stone, director of Extension and Summer Sessions can be seen lighting her cigar. The Dean of Women handled administrative affairs and regulations for women students. Edmisten served as dean from 1957 until her retirement in 1971.
