Description
This image shows three members of the Department of Music at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) sitting around a desk in the 1960s. Seated on the left is Dr. William Fuller of the Department of Education, Dr. Robert Randal (Director of the Placement Office) on the right and unknown person seated on the middle. The Department of Music became the Hayes School of Music in 1988 and was named for Mariam Cannon Hayes, former member of the Appalachian State Board of Trustees and current member of the Hayes School of Music Advisory Board. The School of Music provides majors in Music Education, Music Performance, Music Therapy, Sacred Music, Composition and Theory, Music Industry Studies, and Jazz Studies. The Department is a member of the National Association of Schools of Music, and students perform recitals and concerts throughout the year.

These people are NOT sitting around a piano; it’s a desk. And they are NOT Hoyt Safrit and Walt Cole. Rather, they are Dr. William Fuller of the Dept. of Education (on the left), Dr. Robert Randal ,Dir. of the Placement Office (on the right) and unknown person sitting on the middle.
