Description

This image shows Student Government President Malcolm Carroll making wine in his apartment kitchen in Boone, NC, in January 1974. He can be seen pouring cups of fermented wine through a cheesecloth strainer into a wine bottle. Carroll manufactured homemade wine using gallon plastic milk jugs, balloons, and used wine bottles. Two fermenting jugs with balloons serving as release valves can be seen in the background. He sold the finished wine for $1.50 a gallon. This image appears in the January 5, 1974 edition of "The Appalachian" (p. 1).
