This image shows some onlookers watching a jogging contest held at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the late 1960s. Joggers ran down Appalachian Street by Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, seen in the background. The man in the center of the image with a beard is Dr. John Barden, Professor of Education.
