This image shows a competitor preparing to hang glide off the edge of Grandfather Mountain Linville, North Carolina, for the U. S. Hang Gliding Championships in the 1970s. The event was sponsored by the United States Hang Gliding Association, a non-profit organization that supported non-motorized, foot-launched hang gliding.
